Nagpur–Itarsi Fourth Railway Line: Boosting Connectivity and Freight Efficiency in Central India

    • This project spans approximately 297 kilometers, with a total of 339 kilometers of track.
  • It will be constructed at a cost of ₹5,451 crore and is part of the Delhi–Chennai High Density Network.
  • The line will connect Nagpur to the Mumbai–Howrah network, enhancing both freight and passenger train speed and capacity.
  • The route will feature 37 stations, 36 major bridges, 415 minor bridges, 74 road underbridges, 2 road overbridges, and 4 tunnels.
  • Regions such as Narmadapuram, Betul, Pandhurna (Madhya Pradesh), and Nagpur (Maharashtra) will benefit directly from this development.
  • The line will improve connectivity to Jyotirling pilgrimage sites like Mahakaleshwar, Omkareshwar, Srisailam, and Rameshwaram.
  • Freight capacity will increase by 10 million tonnes, with an expected savings of ₹1,206 crore in logistics costs.
  • Under PM Gati Shakti and the National Infrastructure Pipeline, this project is a major step toward modernizing India’s railway infrastructure.
  • The project will also create employment opportunities during its construction and operation phases.
